It was intense for the rest of the first half as four yellow cards were awarded before the end of the first period.
Erik Ten Hag’s team went ahead for the second time in the match through Hojlund’s second. However, Galatasaray responded almost immediately through Kerem AktĆ¼rkoÄlu. Veteran forward Burak Yilmaz, who had only come on ten minutes earlier, assisted AktĆ¼rkoÄlu’s goal.
United were reduced to ten men when Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was shown his matching orders in the 77th minute.
Galatasaray win but more pressure on Ten Hag
Mauro Icardi had missed the resulting penalty kick but he didn’t have to wait too long to register his name on the score sheet. He was supplied the ball by Davinson Sanchez (his second assist of the night) to put Gala in the lead for the first time in the game. That goal also proved to be the winner.
This is the first time United have started a Champions League group stage campaign with back-to-back defeats. The pressure continues to pile on Ten Hag who has overseen a disappointing start to the season.
Manchester United are bottom of the table, four points behind Galatasaray who are second, behind Bayern Munich.
