Chelsea have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of 20-year-old winger Jamie Jermaine Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund.
The move, worth £48.5 million plus £3.5 million in potential add-ons, marks another bold investment in youth by the Blues.
Gittens, a product of Manchester City’s academy, joined Dortmund in 2020 and has since evolved into one of Europe’s brightest young talents. During his time in Germany, he scored 17 goals and registered 14 assists across 107 appearances.
Although he won’t be eligible to feature for Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup, the England U21 international expressed excitement over his move.

“It feels great to join such a big club as Chelsea. It’s an amazing feeling,” Gittens said after signing a seven-year deal with the Blues.
Meanwhile, Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl confirmed that negotiations with Chelsea had been “challenging,” but ultimately fruitful. He praised Gittens’ contribution to the club and wished him well on his new journey.
“Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure,” Kehl said. “He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success.”
Gittens becomes Chelsea’s fifth signing of the summer, joining Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Sporting midfielder Dario Essugo, and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr. The club’s aggressive transfer approach showcases manager Enzo Maresca’s desire to rebuild the squad with long-term potential.
Despite his young age, Gittens arrives with valuable top-flight and European experience, which could prove crucial in Chelsea’s future plans. With his technical ability and eye for goal, he is expected to bring a new dimension to their attacking play once he’s cleared for action after the Club World Cup campaign.
