Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the acquisition of Mamadou Sarr from RC Strasbourg, with the young French defender signing a long-term contract that extends through 2033.
The announcement was made on Monday via the club’s official website. Chelsea highlighted Sarr’s impressive 2024/25 season at Strasbourg, where the 19-year-old made 28 appearances in all competitions. His contributions were pivotal in helping the team finish seventh in Ligue 1, earning a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
“Mamadou first showed his high potential in the academy of RC Lens before joining Lyon. Having progressed through the club’s youth ranks, he made his senior debut during the penultimate game of the 2022/23 season,” the club’s statement read.

The statement further noted: “The influential defender was handed two more senior outings during the following campaign before he embarked on a five-month loan spell at Belgian club RWD Molenbeek.”
Sarr signed with Strasbourg in August 2024 and quickly became a mainstay in the team’s backline, starting 27 Ligue 1 matches. His steady performances also earned him appearances for France at youth level, most recently with the Under-20 national team.
Chelsea expressed their enthusiasm over the new signing and the potential Sarr brings to the club’s defensive line for the future.
