Cultural fusion: How to incorporate Ankara into a corporate look

    Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

It’s the age of cultural awakening and keeping up with cultural heritage is one of the trends you must not miss. Some people do not like wearing cultural outfits because they find them too elaborate for work. But little do they know that you can go simple and still identify with your culture. You just have to spice your outfit with a little bit of cultural identification material.

You don’t have to go to match while fusing cultural material into your outfit or look. You can just go for it with your purse, shoe, or bag, or simply put it as an accessory.

    1. Ankara tote bags

You might wear a corporate outfit that doesn’t have any element of Nigerian culture and all you have to do is style it with an Ankara tote bag. The creativity of Nigerians is not limited and they’ve found ways to fuse culture into anything they do. If you do not want to rock the regular tote bag design, it is possible to take it up the notch by incorporating Ankara fabric into your work bag. I am sure there is a vendor around you that can make the magic.

    2. Ankara earrings

Yes, this can be as classy as you want it to be. You don’t need a flashy Ankara fabric to embed into your earrings. Just go for a simple one. Mind you, you also don’t have to wear an Ankara dress to rock an Ankara earring. Everything doesn’t have to be to match. You can break the monotony by wearing a plain dress.

    3. Ankara print footwear

Another way you can embed culture into your look is by embedding the Ankara fabric into your shoes or sandals. You have to demure doing this. You don’t want your footwear to look like camouflage or the Ankara design to stand out. Just go subtle with this by attaching it at strategic parts. Assuming your footwear has a bow or a hoof, you can attach the Ankara fabric.

    4. Plain dresses laced with Ankara

This is another subtle way you can fuse cultural material into your outfit. You can sew the Ankara to the hem of the dress, and the sleeve, or even add Ankara press-on buttons to your outfit.
