The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has confirmed a fire incident at Okaro Primary School in Urhonigbe over the weekend, which caused significant damage to a block of classrooms.
The fire occurred outside of school hours, ensuring that no students or staff were present, and no injuries had been reported.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are underway by relevant authorities within SUBEB.

In response to the incident, Onomen Goodness Briggs, SUBEB Chairman, dispatched a high-level team to assess the damage and determine necessary interventions.
The fact-finding team, led by Angela Okpanem, a Board Member for Edo South, also includes Austin Otas, the Director in Charge of Schools, and other senior officials from SUBEB.

SUBEB is exploring alternative arrangements to ensure that students’ education continues without major disruptions.

The board expressed its gratitude for the support and concern shown by the Urhonigbe community and assured residents that efforts to restore the school’s operations are being expedited.
