Altering internet prices was limited to four internet plans by MTN Nigeria throughout the network adjustments beginning on Monday. Subscribers were not pleased with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)-authorized internet price adjustment because some plans had their rates increased beyond the approved 50% threshold.
The data pricing document from NRTC confirmed that the 50% price hike applied only to four out of MTN Nigeria’s 18 available internet plans on their network. The hourly bundle had its 2GB capacity reduced from 2GB to 400MB while its price rose from N200 to N100, thus creating an effective 156% increase. MTN Nigeria upgraded its 400GB three-month plan from 50,000 Naira to 120,000 Naira while increasing the provided data to 480GB. This limited change meant a 100% price hike.
