Here’s how to get cheaper plans on MTN, Glo, others with as little as N1,500

News Round The Clock earlier reported that MTN Nigeria has increased its data plan prices following the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) approval of a 50% hike in telecom service costs.

Significant changes include the 15GB weekly plan rising from N2,000 to N6,000 and the 1.8GB monthly plan now costing N1,500 instead of N1,000. Larger plans, such as the 90-day 1.5TB package, surged from N150,000 to N240,000. While MTN is the first to adjust its rates, Airtel and Globacom are expected to follow suit after the NCC’s first major price increase in a decade.

As a result of this, there has been outrage over MTN Nigeria’s new data price hike, especially over its weekly promotional 15GB data plan that was increased to N6,000 from a promotional price of N2,000

If you’re looking for more affordable alternatives, both MTN and other networks like Glo offer cheaper data plans that may suit your needs. While MTN’s promotional 15GB weekly plan saw a sharp increase, other data bundles remain unchanged.

MTN users can explore personalized offers by dialing *121# and selecting options like TopData4Me and Data4Me, which provide varying discounts based on usage patterns. Some users have reported deals like 11GB for N3,500 per month on their personal lines and 50GB for N6,500 on MiFi devices, which are significantly cheaper than the newly increased standard rates.

For those considering a switch, Glo continues to offer some of the most affordable data plans in Nigeria. As of now, Glo’s 5GB monthly plan is priced at N1,500, while 20GB costs N5,000—making it a strong alternative for heavy data users. Airtel and 9mobile also have competitive bundles, though they may adjust their prices soon following NCC’s directive.

Ultimately, while MTN’s price hike is concerning, users still have access to discounted options within the network and more affordable plans from competitors. It’s advisable to compare offers regularly and subscribe to plans that best suit your data consumption and budget.
