EDITORIAL: Makoko deserves more than charity

On February 12, 2025, the National Football League (NFL) donated $100,000 to support Kai Cenat’s school project in Makoko, Lagos. The donation was part of the NFL Foundation’s Inspire Change Campaign, following a charity event in New Orleans involving Cenat and fellow content creator IShowSpeed. While this gesture is commendable, it exposes a recurring failure in Nigeria’s governance—where foreign donations and NGO-driven initiatives substitute for the government's responsibilities.

Preview of Premier League MatchDay 37

The race for the top-four positions of the Premier League is not over, as Leicester or Chelsea could still be booted out of as teams go into MatchDay 37.

Premier League Matchday 37 is expected to be a battle as Liverpool have already put themselves in the running for the top four after Alisson Becker’s last gasp goal at the Hawthorns.

READ: Preview of Premier League MatchDay 36

Oladipupo Mojeed brings us the preview & predictions for Premier League Matchday 37 Preview ahead of the games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Manchester United v Fulham

The Red Devils will need to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back home defeats against Leicester City and Liverpool. They need to get their confidence back after the fans’ protests, which Ole Gunnar Solksjaer said had a huge impact on their results.

Fulham’s are already relegated (Image: Fulham)

With the Europa League final coming up against Villareal next week, United must use this game as their dress rehearsal. It is also their last home game of the season, which will see the return of fans to Old Trafford.

They are therefore expected to field a strong team in this and their final game against Wolves. If they do so, it will be hard for Fulham to stop them.

Prediction: 2-0
Southampton v Leeds

This is the right kind of game for Southampton after two straight wins against Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Leeds will also be going into this after their masterclass performance at Turf Moor against Burnley on Saturday. Marcelo Bielsa’s men are flying at the moment and the Saints will not have an easy ride like they had against their last two opponents. It will be difficult to play against a Leeds team that plays with intensity.

Rodrigo bagged brace against Burnley (Image: Leeds)

Meanwhile, Southampton will be glad to have fans back at St Mary’s Stadium but they must produce a good performance. Having secured their Premier League status, they are expected to play with freedom. We are likely to witness some attacking football.

The Saints will have to rely on impressive Nathan Tella, but they are missing Danny Ings, who is unfit to play a full 90 minutes.

Prediction: 1-2
Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City

Having rested most of their first team members during Friday’s win at Newcastle, Manchester City will surely bring them back to the starting lineup as they prepare for the Champions League final against Chelsea.

Brighton celebrate a goal against West Ham (Image: Brighton)

Although Brighton offers some attacking threats, they don’t have such a huge quality as City. So, it is expected to be a win for the Citizens in this Premier League matchday 37 clash.

Prediction: 0-2
Chelsea v Leicester City

Chelsea will be looking forward to taking revenge of their FA Cup loss to the Foxes. Tuchel’s men just need to focus on their top-four ambition and hope to win their second Champions League trophy.

Leicester win their first FA trophy after defeating Chelsea on Saturday (Image: Leicester)

On that premise, I expect Chelsea to win here and overtake their opponent on the table. A win here could guarantee them Champions League football for next season.

Prediction: 2-0
Everton v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Everton has never been impressive at home, with most of their wins this season coming from away games. They have themselves to blame for not making the top four after losses against Burnley, relegated Fulham, and Sheffield United.

Daniel Jebbison was able to secure a second Premier League win for Sheffield with his debut goal against Everton (Image: Sheffield)

Wolves could take advantage of their hosts’ terrible home form. The visitors will also want to return to winning ways after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Spurs.

With fans now allowed into the stands, the story could change, but I am predicting a cautious scoreline here.

Prediction: 2-1
Newcastle United v Sheffield United

After losing to Manchester City with a slim margin on Friday, Newcastle have the opportunity to beat relegated Sheffield United. On paper, the Magpies should take this one, but the Blades could score out of nowhere again.

Newcastle United lost to Man City with a slim margin on Friday (Image: Newcastle)

The Magpies will also want to put up a good performance in front of their fans after ensuring Premier League safety. I am giving the Tyneside club a win here after the impressive performance from their last six games.

Prediction: 2-0
Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa

Spurs will continue their fight for a Champions League or Europa League slot here. Having won the reverse fixture a few weeks ago, I am giving Spurs a win here against a Villa side that has been struggling with the absences of Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish.

Pierre Hojbjerg celebrates goal against Wolves (Image: Spurs)

Although Grealish returned to action in their last two games, the skipper will need to be at 100 percent to give his best. Spurs will be too much for Villa to handle.

Prediction: 2-0
Crystal Palace v Arsenal

Arsenal has a slim chance of qualifying for the Europa League. But having had the weekend off, the Gunners, who are on a run of three successive league wins are expected to make it four in a row at Selhurst Park.

Palace is going into Premier League Matchday 37 on the back of a 3-2 win over Aston Villa (Image: Crystal Palace)

They will again rely on their youngsters, who have made a difference for them in recent weeks.
Palace need a spark to get a good result against the Gunners, and perhaps their fans could play a major role.

Prediction: 1-2
Burnley v Liverpool

Liverpool will continue their push for the top four but Burnley can make things uncomfortable for them. It is, therefore, important that the Reds don’t concede first if they are to get a win here. Nevertheless, they have more firing power and are the likely winner of this encounter.

Alisson Becker got Liverpool an injury time winner at West Brom (Image: Liverpool)

Burnley have nothing to lose as they have secured the Premier League status for another season. Liverpool could have a field day, but the Clarets will also want to give their fans a good game on their return to the stands.

Prediction: 1-3
West Bromwich Albion v West Ham United

It appears the Hammers have put their foot off the gas in the past few weeks, and their results have tailed off at the worst possible time. After losing the chance of finishing in the top four, the Hammers need maximum points here to be in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

Spurs celebrate goal against Wolves (Image: Spurs)

To do so, they must produce a top-class performance against West Bromwich Albion.

Prediction: 0-2

As the season draws to a close, there’s no predicting what could happen. Premier League Matchday 37 and the remaining games of the season are bound to be filled with goals and drama.
