D’Tigers roar to dominant AfroBasket 2025 start with 77-59 victory over Madagascar

The D'Tigers of Nigeria have beaten Madagascar in their opening match of the AfroBasket 2025 Championship.

Nigeria’s D’Tigers kicked off their 2025 AfroBasket campaign in style, overpowering Madagascar 77-59 in a confident opening display.

The win not only set the tone for their continental push but also brought hopes of reclaiming the trophy they lifted a decade ago.

The opening quarter offered little separation, as both teams matched each other’s intensity. By halftime, the scoreboard reflected the contest’s tight nature, with Nigeria holding a slim one-point advantage.

Caleb Agada shone brightly as he steered the team’s offense with 13 points at the break, while Madagascar continued to challenge every possession.

The third quarter saw the Nigerians begin to assert themselves, using quick ball movement and aggressive defense to disrupt Madagascar’s rhythm. Their depth and experience became evident as the game wore on.

In the last quarter, D’Tigers shifted into overdrive as they outscored Madagascar 22-13 to close out the match emphatically.

Agada finished with 22 points, while Stan Okoye added 13, Ike Nwamu contributed 12, and Kaodirichi Akobundu chipped in with 10. Together, the quartet accounted for 57 of Nigeria’s total points.

With an 18-point victory in the bag, the team’s confidence is surging ahead of Friday’s clash with Tunisia. The defending champions will present a different kind of challenge, but the D’Tigers appear ready for the test.
