EFCC, TCTI sign MoU to equip youths with digital skills

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Teachers Continuous Training Institute (TCTI), Biase, Cross River State, to provide digital skills training for Nigerian youths.

The agreement was formalised during a courtesy visit by TCTI’s Director General, Taoheed Adedoja, and his management team to the EFCC headquarters, where they met with the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Olukoyede described the initiative as a strategic extension of EFCC’s preventive mandate in combating corruption and financial crimes.

He emphasised that collaboration with institutions like TCTI is essential for national reorientation efforts, especially among young people.

“No single agency can do this work alone,” he said.

“Our mandate is to investigate and prosecute, but we can incorporate this as part of our preventive strategy. That is why we welcome this MoU and intend to operationalise it immediately.”

He stressed the importance of equipping youths with digital skills as a pathway to legitimate employment, adding that the EFCC is developing an ICT Research and Cyber Security Centre within its academy.

“It is when they have basic skills that you can ask them to engage in productive activities,” he said.

“We want to give them options that steer them away from internet fraud. Crime does not pay—it only tarnishes their future.”

Adedoja explained that the initiative aims to empower Nigerian youths with digital literacy to contribute meaningfully to national development, drawing on global models of youth engagement through tech skills.

“This intervention is about skilling the intelligent youths and deploying them to various sectors of the economy,” Adedoja said.

“Beyond skills, we will also be offering psychological support and rehabilitation. This partnership will present the EFCC in a new light—as a key player in youth development.”

Both institutions expressed commitment to implementing the terms of the agreement immediately, marking a new chapter in efforts to curb cybercrime and youth unemployment through capacity-building.
