The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has convened a high-level conference with senior police officers to address internal security and enhance public safety.

The IGP confirmed during the conference held in Abuja the ongoing implementation of the presidential directive for the withdrawal and redeployment of police personnel previously attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs).

Egbetokun disclosed that a total of 11,566 officers have so far been withdrawn from VIP security assignments.

He emphasised that this action is essential for strengthening general policing operations and boosting manpower availability for frontline duties across the nation.

He directed that these personnel be promptly redeployed to bolster nationwide policing efforts, enhancing public safety.

The IGP issued comprehensive operational directives to all Commissioners of police and tactical commanders to enhance national security, particularly ahead of the yuletide season.

These directives include, reinforcing intelligence-gathering mechanisms, deepening community policing frameworks through sustained citizen engagement, ensuring lawful and professional protection of vulnerable communities and immediately scaling up visible policing through expanded deployment of personnel nationwide to deter crime and reassure the public of their safety.

The IGP affirmed the commitment of the police to intensify all necessary measures to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for every citizen, resident, or visitor to Nigeria.
