Governor Biodun Oyebanji has convened a meeting in Abuja with prominent figures including Senate Leader and Chairman of Ekiti Caucus in the National Assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The meeting was prompted by the escalating security threats in Ekiti State, marked by the tragic killings of traditional rulers and the abduction of school pupils and teachers.
Governor Oyebanji took to his social media platforms to announce that he had received firm assurances of support and the mobilization of resources to quell the recent threats to peace and security in the state.

He wrote: āI had separate meetings alongside the Senate Leader and Chairman of Ekiti Caucus in the National Assembly, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa at the Defence Headquarters; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja at the Nigeria Army Headquarters; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
āWe discussed extensively on security, which remains a priority for our administration, and received firm assurances of their support as well as mobilisation of resources to stop the recent threats to peace and security in Ekiti State.ā
Recall that two traditional rulers, Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, were killed by suspected kidnappers in the state while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti.

Furthermore, gunmen abducted an undisclosed number of school children in the Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State just a day after the killing of the traditional rulers.
According to a post by Ekititrends on its X account on Tuesday, the incident involved students from Apostolic Faith School who were reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening while traveling from Emure Ekiti to Eporo Ekiti on their school bus.
