Two former ministers, Abubakar Malami and Rotimi Amaechi, have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Malami, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday.
He said he made the move after thinking deeply about the country’s challenges and listening to the concerns of his people in Kebbi State.
Malami noted that insecurity, hunger, and poor governance were making life unbearable for Nigerians.
He also criticised the current administration for sidelining merit in key appointments and replacing it with political favoritism.
According to him, the ruling party has abandoned the people, and remaining in such a system would mean turning a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary citizens.
Rotimi Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation and once governed Rivers State, also left the APC, saying the country has collapsed and is in desperate need of a new direction.
He made this known in Abuja during the presentation of the ADC’s interim leadership.
Amaechi accused the APC and INEC of plotting to rig the coming elections, adding that citizens are now so poor they can’t afford daily meals.
He argued that inflation has skyrocketed and the government seems to care more about politics than the welfare of the people.
He said he had already warned the party not to involve him in any further meetings and formally resigned from the APC the night before.
For Amaechi, joining ADC is not just about politics, but about starting a movement that returns power to ordinary Nigerians.
