The Federal Government has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch a free digital skills training partnership across Nigerian universities and polytechnics.

This collaboration aims to empower students with industry-relevant competencies in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and software development.

Under the new initiative, selected tertiary institutions will receive access to AWS’s digital training resources, including virtual labs, workshops, and tailored curriculum modules.

Students will learn essential skills like cloud architecture, data analytics, machine learning applications, and secure infrastructure deployment.

By integrating these modules into existing academic programmes, the project ensures that learners graduate with real-world proficiency and employability boost.

The initiative also provides instructor training, enabling lecturers and facilitators to deliver AWS coursework and supervise hands-on student projects effectively.

Graduates of the programme will receive AWS-recognized digital credentials, certificates, and badges to validate their skillsets for future employers.

The partnership reflects the government’s strategic focus on youth development, technology adoption, and alignment with global digital economy trends.

AWS will contribute technical support, learning materials, and mentorship assistance through virtual hackathons, webinars, and peer communities.

Participating institutions will be selected in phases, beginning with centres of ICT excellence and expanding to regional hubs over time.

Officials anticipate that hundreds of thousands of students will access training within the first year, with significant scale projected over three years.

Through this alliance, Nigeria aims to close the skills gap in critical fields such as cybersecurity, cloud engineering, and data-driven innovation.

Experts say this collaboration can enhance graduate readiness while attracting investments and bolstering the country’s tech ecosystem.

Private sector observers expect the partnership to foster job creation, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.

To sustain the effort, the FG will ensure institutional accreditation, regulatory alignment, and national recognition of AWS skill standards.

With tertiary institutions hosting cloud training infrastructure, Nigeria builds capacity for a digitally proficient workforce ready for global competition.

This initiative places Nigeria among African leaders forging strategic public–private alliances to prepare youth for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
