The federal government says N712.26 billion will fund the upgrade of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), including Terminal 1 rebuild, apron expansion and a new bridge.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the extensive upgrade plan for Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The project will involve a full reconstruction of Terminal One, expansion of the airport apron, and the construction of an additional connecting bridge.
According to Keyamo, the project aims to meet global aviation standards and will significantly improve passenger experience and aircraft handling operations.
He disclosed this during a facility tour of the airport, where stakeholders were briefed on the government’s modernization and infrastructural development plans.
He stated, “We are not just renovating, we are rebuilding from scratch to give Nigerians a world class terminal they can be proud of.”
The MMIA project is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize airport infrastructure and enhance Nigeria’s aviation sector performance.
Keyamo added that construction will be handled transparently, with monitoring systems to ensure quality delivery and adherence to budget specifications.
