The Federal Government (FG) and governors from all 36 states have discussed the possibility of establishing State Police.
This discussion took place during a meeting attended by the 36 state governors, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and several ministers at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the President emphasised the need to aggressively establish a committee to examine State Policing and other related issues.
During the meeting, President Tinubu and the governors underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to address insecurity, food security, and the challenge of out-of-school children.
President Tinubu further approved the establishment of a committee comprising state governors and representatives of the federal government to, among other things, explore the modalities for establishing state police.

He endorsed the training and equipping of forest rangers by sub-national governments to safeguard human and natural resources in local communities.
