Flamingos bounce back to record the first victory in the FIFA under-17 female world cup

Nigeria’s under-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, won their first match in a large slide against New Zealand in the ongoing FIFA Under-17 female World Cup.

The match took place at the Fatorda Stadium, Margao, Goa, in India on Friday, 14th October 2022.

This was after a humbling defeat from Germany at the opening match on Tuesday 11th October falling to a 2 -1 defeat.

New Zealand was also looking for a comeback to right their wrong after their loss against Chile. Aminat Bello at 17 minutes of the first half netted the first goal for the Flamingos.

The Oceanians were also not relenting in aiming for the goal post but the Flamingos was having nothing of sort as 15-year-old Miracle Usani, scored her second goal of the competition.

Despite an improved defense of New Zealand during the second half, it didn’t stop the fighting spirit of Taiwo Afolabi and  Etim Edidiong from netting two goals respectively which sealed a 4-0 victory for Nigeria.

The win automatically ports the Flamingos to second on the group table. The Nigerian side will face Chile on Monday, October 17, 2022, in their final group game.
