While addressing Journalists, the leader of the Kaduna communities affected by the flood, Ibrahim Musa Yakodo stated that the communities need urgent government assistance. He said the residents need urgent relocation to safer places.

Yakodo said majority of the residents of the communities are landlords who cannot afford to rent houses elsewhere. He said since they own houses within the communities, it is now very difficult for them to relocate.

“Every year, we face this horrible experience of flooding. We cannot afford money to relocate to safer places. Our tenants have relocated, leaving us with our buildings. We need government assistance now,” he said.

Since there was a forecast of possible flooding in Kaduna, the Kaduna State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commander Idris Yahaya, had placed the agency’s personnel in the Disaster Management Unit and residents on red alert.
