Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the state to remain calm despite the ongoing political crisis.
In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday and obtained by News Round The Clock, Fubara emphasized that since assuming office, his decisions have been guided by his constitutional oath and a deep sense of duty.
“I address you today with a deep sense of responsibility and calm, as we navigate this unfortunate moment in our state’s political history. Since assuming office as your governor, we have prioritised the protection of lives and property and ensured the continuous progress of our dear state.
“Even in the face of the political impasse, we have remained committed to constitutional order and the rule of law, putting the interest of our people above all else.”
He stated that following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to resolve the crisis, his administration implemented the agreed terms in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had resigned.
“Furthermore, we moved swiftly to comply with the Supreme Court’s judgment immediately after we received the certified true copy of the judgment to return the state to normalcy,” he added.
According to Fubara, these efforts were not for personal gain but to promote peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State. However, he accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating genuine attempts at reconciliation.
“Our priorities remained the security of lives and property and advancing the well-being and prosperity of Rivers people.
“Yes, we have political disagreements, but good governance had continued, salaries have been paid, and great projects were being executed to move the state forward. Above all, Rivers State is safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch.

We have always been resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he assured.
Fubara’s statement comes a day after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending him, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers for six months.
In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu said the decision was aimed at restoring stability following months of political tension between the governor and the state legislature.
“By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months,” the President announced.
The President also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s administrator to oversee governance during the period.
