The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s letter to the state House of Assembly as “useless,” criticizing his method of reaching out to lawmakers.

Wike, speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, questioned Fubara’s decision to send a public letter instead of directly contacting Speaker Martins Amaewhule and his team. He described the move as insincere and ineffective.

“You have had a frosty relationship with an arm of government. If you are a good politician, will you go and write a letter? Is it by writing a letter signed by the SSG? What an insult! Is it how it is done? If you are a politician, you know what to do,” Wike said.

“You want to play at the gallery which is rubbish. All these letters are useless, you are not sincere, you are playing to the gallery,” he added.

The Supreme Court had ruled on February 28 that the Amaewhule-led assembly remains the legitimate legislative body in Rivers State, rejecting Fubara’s appeal against its authority.

The court also restricted financial institutions from releasing funds to the Rivers State Government, citing the administration’s disregard for previous rulings.

In response to the judgment, Fubara directed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to organize a fresh local government election on August 9, 2025.

Seeking a resolution to the political crisis, Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo sent a letter last Friday requesting a meeting with lawmakers on March 10 to discuss the 2025 budget and efforts to restore peace.

However, Wike dismissed the idea that peace could be achieved without proper action.

“What is peace? What is more important than letting the right thing be done? When the right thing is done, there will be peace. But if the right thing is not done, how can you talk about peace? Go present the budget; go submit the list of the commissioners,” he stated.
