Genevieve Nnaji tackles X user over comments on Igbo women

Veteran actress, Genevieve Nnaji has reacted to a trending post on X where a user urged Igbo men to avoid marrying women from their own ethnic group.

The post, which circulated on Monday, told Igbo men to seek wives in East Africa, adding that doing so would help them avoid trouble at home, including false claims against them.

The X user wrote: “Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of raping your daughter, better look outside for a wife… Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda and pick a damsel.”

The message drew wide reactions online, and Genevieve, who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, stepped in to address it.

She questioned why the writer chose to warn men against Igbo women instead of asking them to examine their behaviour.

She stated that the idea sounded like a way of shifting blame rather than urging personal responsibility.

She wrote: “In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”
