Gov Aiyedatiwa wins Ondo APC governorship primary election

The Chairman of the Ondo State All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Committee, Usman Ododo, has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the winner. 

Governor Aiyedatiwa won the APC ward primary to become the party’s candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Aiyedatiwa secured 48,569 votes in the primaries, defeating his opponents. Mayowa Akinfolarin received 15,343 votes, and Olusola Oke trailed in third with 14,865 votes.

Ododo, who announced Aiyedatiwa as the winner in the early hours of Monday stated that the electoral process proceeded smoothly with minimal skirmishes.

He said: “I can confirm that the direct mode of primary election was adopted in the 2024 Ondo state governorship primaries, held in all 203 electoral wards across the 18 LGAs in Ondo state.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa won in 16 of the 18 LGAs, conceding Ilaje LGA to Oke.

The primary began on Saturday, with multiple contestants claiming that the elections hadn’t taken place at all.

Several aspirants protested in the streets, citing irregularities in the election process and demanding its cancellation.
