Hollywood star Halle Berry has shared that she’s not in a hurry to walk down the aisle again, even though she’s in love with her longtime partner, Van Hunt.
The couple, who have been together for five years, have already talked about marriage. According to Berry, Hunt has proposed, but she hasn’t said yes—at least not yet.
“I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” Hunt said during his first joint interview with Berry on the June 4 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”
Explaining her hesitation, Berry pointed to the influence of both their past experiences with marriage. She made it clear that their commitment doesn’t need to be defined by a wedding.
“Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” Berry said.
Berry was previously married to actor Olivier Martinez, former baseball star David Justice, and singer Eric Benét. She has a son with Martinez and a daughter with her former partner Gabriel Aubry.

Despite holding off on the proposal for now, Berry admitted that marriage may still be in the cards for them.
“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she noted. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
When asked about a possible timeline, Berry simply said, “Soon.”
The couple made their relationship public in September 2020. At the time, a source told PEOPLE that they had been dating for several months and that Hunt had already met Berry’s two children—17-year-old Nahla and 11-year-old Maceo.
In a previous interview with Marie Claire, Berry opened up about how deeply she feels for Hunt.
“It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex,” she revealed. “That has never happened to me, ever,” she added. “Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”
