US-Based Nigerian doctor allegedly takes life over $15,000 child support

Reports show that Nigerian cardiologist Ikenna Erinne killed himself upon losing a child support case to his unidentified former wife.

Hospital authorities confirmed that the suicide took place on a Sunday, January 26.

The Anambra-state-born doctor who was deceased spent numerous years fighting a divorce battle with his wife over child custody rights after their separation.

A US court stated that Ikenna Erinne must pay his ex-wife $15,000 monthly in child support following his case loss.

Nigerian-American Doctor Condemns US Court Bias After Suicide

A Nigerian-American physician Clayton Udo verified the incident on X.com. He described how court costs depleted his finances in a tragic ending.

He declared that the mistreatment of African men in the United States needs to stop immediately. American cardiologist Dr. Ikenna Erinne met his end by suicide after an American court required him to hand over $15,000 each month to his former wife. The drawn-out divorce battle contributed to this decision. The unfortunate circumstance reveals how the legal system produces racial bias against African men.

Udo introduced himself as a psychological and mental abuse expert. He stated that the victim spent thousands of dollars on legal costs before the court gave his ex-wife victory.

Clayton Udo further explained that the late doctor lost his license as a cardiologist due to the case, He added that the doctor died after shooting himself.

ā€œHe shot himself to death. He spent thousands of dollars in legal fees ā€“ wasted money. I am talking about a process that impoverishes you. You go to court and they take all your money.

ā€œHe lost his license as a cardiologist in this case plus they slammed on him 15,000 dollars a month. He also had restricted access to his children,ā€ he added.

Another member of the Nigerian community in the United States, Obim Onujiogu, also confirmed Erinneā€™s death in a post on Facebook.

Onujiogu described him as a compassionate healer and devoted family man.

He, however, disclosed that his funeral would be held Monday in Maryland, the United States.

Onujiogu wrote, ā€œIn Loving Memory of Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne. It is with heavy hearts that the ASA DC family announces the sudden and untimely passing of Dr. Ikenna Erinne Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne, was a beloved father, son, brother, and esteemed cardiologist, who departed on January 26, 2025.

ā€œBorn on March 4, 1988, Dr. Erinne was a compassionate healer and devoted family man. He is survived by his children Ugonna and Munachi, parents Engr. Chris, Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and siblings Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.

ā€œA celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, MD, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park.ā€
