Barcelona’s preparations for their UEFA Champions League clash with Newcastle United have suffered a huge setback, with Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde expected to miss the crucial round of 16 tie.
The defensive duo limped off during the emphatic 4-1 victory over Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou. The Catalans now face a defensive puzzle ahead of the European fixture.
Kounde lasted only ten minutes in the Copa del Rey encounter, with the Frenchman picking up a hamstring problem that could sideline him until late March.
Balde replaced him but endured a similar fate in the second half. Reports suggest the Spanish full-back’s injury could keep him out for up to six weeks.
