The Embassy of the United States in Abuja has alerted its citizens in Nigeria about a possible outbreak of protests in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the mission explained that the warning was connected to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. It noted that similar demonstrations in the past had escalated into violence.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protests in Abuja today, March 4, 2026, due to the current conflict with Iran,” the statement said.

According to the embassy, previous protests by certain groups in Abuja had led to “violent clashes between the group and Nigerian security forces.”

Under a notice titled Security Alert: Possible Protests in Abuja, the mission advised American nationals residing in the Federal Capital Territory to remain indoors throughout the day.

“The Embassy strongly recommends that all U.S. citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4,” it said.

The embassy also urged its citizens to steer clear of protest venues and crowded places. It advised them to exercise caution if they inadvertently find themselves near demonstration sites.

In addition, the advisory encouraged Americans to “monitor local media for updates,” stay conscious of their surroundings and maintain a low profile while in public.

The mission further recommended that individuals review their personal security arrangements, ensure their phones are fully charged, carry valid identification and remain vigilant in public locations such as shopping malls, cinemas and places of worship.

It also suggested that citizens take note of emergency exits in buildings and consider changing their travel routes and schedules to avoid being predictable.

Despite the security concerns, the embassy confirmed that its consular services are still functioning.

“The Consular Sections of Embassy Abuja and U.S. Consulate General Lagos remain open,” the statement said.

The mission concluded by advising U.S. citizens to keep checking its official communication channels for further updates as events unfold.
