Ize-Iyamu Wins Edo APC Guber Election

Osagie Ize-Iyamu has won the All Progressives Congress ticket for Edo state. Ize-Iyamu contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 governorship election in Edo state. However, he did not win the gubernatorial election.

Ize-Iyamu defected to APC due to the misunderstanding between Godwin Obaseki, and Adams Oshiomhole. It will be recalled that Godwin Obaseki had a long battle with Adams Oshiomhole. He linked their disagreement to the fact that Adams Oshiomhole preferred Ize-Iyamu over him.

Reportedly, Oshiomhole wanted Ize-Iyamu to win the party’s primary. Hence, he deviced every means to take him out of the polls.

News filtered that Godwin Obaseki had no educational background to become a governor. His certificate attracted public criticisms. He was later disqualified by the All Progressives Congress.

His disqualification made him to defect to the People’s Democratic Party. However, Adams Oshiomhole has been suspended as the national chairman of the APC.

Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma announced the result of the primary election in Benin on Monday. He is the chairman of the election panel.

In his collation, Ize-Iyamu polled 27,388 votes ahead of Pius Odubu. Odubu had 3,776 votes. He was Ize-Iyamu’s closest rival.

Governor Uzodinma stated Iyamu scored highest in the primary election. Hence, he will be returned as the candidate of the APC in the coming governorship election.

In his words: “This election is one of the most clinically exercised in the history of elections in Nigeria. This state which originally belongs to the APC will return to the APC after the governorship election.”
