The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has corrected the admission record of Basola Jamiu Owodunni, a Civil Engineering graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
Basola’s mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was earlier denied over what was termed a fake admission.
Basola, who completed his studies in 2024 with a CGPA of 4.41, explained that his admission process started after he wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2017 and gained admission into FUTA in 2018.
However, trouble began when the university’s Student Affairs Division informed him during his final clearance that he could not be mobilised for NYSC because his name was not on JAMB’s matriculation list.
After checking the JAMB portal, Basola discovered that his admission was flagged as fake.
This led him to write to several officials within the university, seeking help to address the problem.
His efforts paid off as JAMB has now reopened his portal, and his name has been included in the matriculation list, which is a key requirement for NYSC mobilisation.
Basola confirmed that he can now access his JAMB profile and reprint documents that were previously unavailable.
He, however, noted that he has yet to be included in the NYSC mobilisation batch but hopes the process will be completed soon.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also confirmed the development.
According to the group, its intervention, along with support from FUTA’s Civil Engineering Department, helped to resolve the issue.
NANS described the outcome as a win for Nigerian students and promised to keep following the case until Basola is fully mobilised for NYSC.
Basola’s case became known after he posted about it online, accusing JAMB of declaring his admission invalid after seven years.
In response, the Board had earlier said it had no record of him and that the admission letter he presented did not come from its system.
It also called on him to explain how he got the letter.
Following the recent update, NANS has pledged to continue holding institutions accountable and to ensure that no other student suffers similar setbacks.
