The office of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has distanced itself from a viral Instagram account using the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan, describing it as fraudulent and intended to impersonate the former leader.
In a statement released on Friday, Jonathan’s media aide, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, clarified that the former president does not own, manage, or operate any personal Instagram account.
Eze said the account has consistently altered its identity while creating the impression that it is affiliated with Jonathan.

“May the public take note that the account represents itself as a fan page at times and impersonates the former president most of the time.
“The username has been changed 13 times and counting and we hope that Meta does the needful in due time,” he said.

According to him, the account frequently switches between portraying itself as a fan page and directly impersonating the former president, a tactic he said is aimed at deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
The former president’s office therefore urged the public to disregard any information or claims emanating from the account, stressing that it has no connection whatsoever with Jonathan.

The statement also called on Meta, the parent company of Instagram, to take appropriate action against the account over the alleged impersonation.
