Andrew Cunanan shot twice Gianni Versace in the head in his Miami home

It happened today in history in the year 1997 when Andrew Cunanan shot Gianni Versace, the founder of the Versace fashion brand to death. Whether Gianni was just unfortunate or Andrew’s history had a history with the Versace founder, it’s not still clear to this day.

Andrew Cunanan before April 27, 1997, had no criminal record. The one-time American most wanted criminal flagged off his killing spree on April 27 when he killed Jeffrey Trail, a friend of his ex-lover, David Madson. Until David Madison was discovered dead six days later, the police believed he was an accomplice to the murder of Jeffrey because they discovered his body in his apartment. However, David was shot by Andrew just six days later.

Before killing the world-renowned Italian fashion designer, Andrew Cunanan murdered a business tycoon, Lee Miglin in his home and stole his car in Chicago. With all these incidents combined, the police force needed to apprehend the dangerous criminal but they had one impediment. Reports had it that Andrew had a chameleon-like ability which made him look different in every picture.

The Killing of Gianni Versace

In his South Beach mansion, the criminal shot Gianni Versace on July 15, 1997, twice to death before he was captured. Andrew shot the Italian elite when he stepped out to the balcony. The investigation could not connect the link to Gianni’s murder and the previous murders Andrew had committed. The only connection between Cunanan and Versace was that they both were openly gay.

After the murder of the Italian fashion designer, the culprit was on the run. 40 blocks from Gianni’s Miami residence, on July 23, 1997, he was discovered dead. Using the same gun that killed his other victims, it appeared that he shot himself.
