Investigation has begun over the potential involvement of Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi in match-fixing activities, NRTC reports.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has initiated this investigation following claims that Matasi was recorded negotiating to manipulate a game’s outcome.

37-year-old Matasi plays for Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz. He has amassed more than 30 international caps.

His latest appearance for the Harambee Stars came during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in October 2024.
As of Thursday, March 27, an undated video posted online (authenticity of the video being unverified yet) appears to show Matasi agreeing a deal to influence the outcome of a league game.
It’s important to note that these are allegations at this stage, and no definitive conclusions have been reached. The FKF’s investigation aims to ascertain the authenticity of the claims and determine any necessary actions based on their findings.
In a separate development, Matasi has previously expressed dissatisfaction with Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat. The goalie accused him of undermining his career during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Matasi alleged that Firat’s decisions were detrimental to his professional trajectory.
Shimanyula backs Matasi
In the face of the ongoing saga, Matasi has found solid support from club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula, who insists the goalkeeper has done nothing wrong. He emphasised that the shot-stopper has been outstanding with three successive clean sheets since his arrival a month ago.
While acknowledging the existence of the footage, Shimanyula urged caution in arriving at conclusions. He stressed that videos can be misleading, often leading to misinterpretations and false narratives.
Moreover, Shimanyula reaffirmed Matasi’s place in the team, stating that he will continue playing unless credible evidence emerges.
As the investigation into the match-fixing allegations is ongoing, further details may emerge.
