The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its ban on street trading across key areas in Ilorin, warning residents and traders to vacate walkways, pedestrian paths, and newly rehabilitated roads or face legal consequences.

In a statement issued by the Assistant Press Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Abdulquadri Ahmed, the government listed Emir’s Road, Zulu Gambari Road, Post Office Area, Isale Oja, and Idi Ape as restricted zones where trading is strictly prohibited.

“These roads have been upgraded to ease traffic, enhance safety, and improve the overall appearance of our city,” the statement read.

“Turning them into makeshift markets defeats these efforts, endangers lives, and disrupts the free movement of people and vehicles.”

The government noted that relevant task forces and security agencies have been deployed to enforce the directive and maintain order across the affected areas.

Traders found violating the regulation will be prosecuted in accordance with existing laws.Residents and vendors were urged to respect public spaces and relocate to designated markets and trading zones.

“This is your State. This is your responsibility. Obey the law. Respect public space,” the statement added.

The move is part of the state government’s broader efforts to promote urban cleanliness, safety, and orderly development in the state capital.
