Kylian Mbappe: Super Star jettisoned dream club for lucrative deal at PSG

Many would have been surprised at the latest switch concerning Kylian Mbappe.

Did I say the latest switch? I mean the change of mind, having decided he wants to join his dream club.

It was an opportunity for the Les Merengues to get a super talent on a platter of gold since he would have become a free agent.

Madrid were getting set for June 30 before announcing a new deal that is expected to have been signed by all the parties concerned.

Only for Florentino Perez, Madrid president to hear recently that the 23-year-old won’t be joining his dream club. This happened after being offered a lucrative deal.

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that Kylian MbappĆ© has signed a three-year contract extension with the Club.

“The France international striker has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Parisians until 30 June 2025,” a statement from the club reads.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague had last month revealed that PSG offered Mbappe a 150m euro signing fee. This was in a bid to keep him for another two seasons.

But the latest development showed that the Paris club offered him a three-year deal. They also double the signing fees with a 100m Euros annual salary after tax. Who won’t want to earn that and forget a future dream? That must have been in the mind

It was initially gathered that the 2018 World Cup winner wanted the Madrid move, but his parents, who are his representatives objected to it.

Knowing fully well the financial package the club owners were ready to offer him and stay, it was difficult for them to turn down.

Is Mbappe playing for money or the love of the game?

This must have been the question being asked by many who has criticised the new deal.

La Liga in a statement had described it as “scandalous”, saying it will affect the economy of the game in the medium term.

As a 23-year-old earning such a huge amount, can one say Mbappe is playing for the money or the love of the game?

No doubt, the commercialisation of football continues to grow on a daily basis. But this kind of deal will be hard for many top clubs to match as they want to protect their future. A player will come and go and clubs will remain.

A top club like Barcelona has found itself in one of such mess as they struggle to balance the books.

Although the oil money from Qatar still keeps coming as the club aims for the super prize: Champions League. This means they should brace up to 2025. They might have to double another signing fee for Mbappe who still have a chance of joining Madrid by the time he will be 26.

Many top players are now learning from this by allowing their contracts to wind won and be on the good side of the table to decide their future.

But looking at the other side, he wants to win a Champions League trophy for the club before leaving. He had on several occasions said it. So, this might be part of his decision to remain with PSG.

Has Mbappe jettisoned his dream club for this new deal?

In two ways, Yes and No.

The first part is taking so long to decide his future and several meeting have been held with Real Madrid. Thus, the La Liga club thought negotiation had reached 70 percent before the turnaround.

This might make Real Madrid not to even want to go for him again in the nearest future, having been on his trail since last season.

However, the game of football is funny. It won’t be a surprise if the La Liga giant start another round of negotiation in the next two season as the Frenchman is still young to join the club. Playing for the club of your dream at the age of 26 won’t be a bad idea though.
