Lagos govt asks retirees to embrace empowerment programmes

The Lagos State Government has encouraged its retirees to take advantage of empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting continued productivity and alternative income generation in retirement.

The appeal came from the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, during a send-forth ceremony held during the week at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, in honour of 18 officers who retired from the Public Service Office between 2023 and 2024.

Agoro highlighted the importance of these initiatives in keeping retirees actively engaged with the government while supporting their transition into entrepreneurial or community-based ventures.

“As we celebrate our 18 distinguished officers from the Public Service Office, I extend the State Government’s profound gratitude for your unwavering loyalty, dedication, and selflessness during your active service,” he said.

Commending their contributions, he added, “Your impact went beyond routine responsibilities. Many of you served as mentors and role models, inspiring your colleagues through professionalism and leadership.”

Agoro reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to the prompt processing and payment of retirement benefits.

He also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising the welfare of both serving and retired public servants.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Sunkanmi Oyegbola, applauded the retirees for their exemplary service and dedication to the development of Lagos State.

Responding on behalf of the retirees, Adeleke Ligali expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity to serve and for the recognition of their contributions.
