Determined to raise learning standards across Nigeria’s commercial hub, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, has launched a wide-ranging tour of key government agencies and private sector partners.

The initiative aims to break down departmental silos and foster a “whole-of-society” approach to education in Lagos State.

Since taking the helm of the OEQA on 15 December 2025, Ogunmuyiwa has used these high-level visits to outline the agency’s ambitious strategic vision: ensuring that every student in Lagos, whether in a public or private school, benefits from inclusive, high-quality education.

His itinerary has already included engagements with the Parastatals Monitoring Office, the Office of Creativity, Transformation and Innovation (OCTI) and the Lagos State Safety Commission.

The tour will extend to more Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and influential private organisations, seeking broad-based support for educational reform and stronger accountability.

On the purpose of the visits, Ogunmuyiwa emphasised that they go beyond protocol.

“These visits are not merely ceremonial; they are deliberate steps to build robust alliances that will underpin OEQA’s mandate,” he said.

“Excellence in education demands a whole-of-government approach.”

Since his appointment, he has focused on internal restructuring, consulting staff and management to identify system gaps and introduce technology-driven innovations to monitor school standards more effectively.

OEQA’s new direction prioritises adherence to quality benchmarks and the creation of safe, conducive learning environments.

By strengthening collaboration with regulatory bodies and the private sector, the agency aims to become a more responsive, dynamic regulator.

As the “Greater Lagos Rising” initiative gathers momentum, this concerted effort signals a new era of transparency and continuous improvement across the state’s vast education sector.
