The Lagos State Government has announced that the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) has transported more than 60 million passengers since the launch of its operations.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa.
The briefing was part of activities commemorating the third anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to the Commissioner, LBSL recorded a total of 60,882,000 passenger trips between May 2019 and February 2025, reflecting the growing reliance of Lagos residents on the state-backed bus system.

He revealed that the agency now transports an average of 42,266 passengers daily, operating nearly 1,000 bus trips every day across different parts of the state.
Osiyemi noted that the bus service has continued to provide a more affordable alternative for commuters compared to many privately operated commercial transport services within Lagos.

The Commissioner said LBSL has steadily expanded its operations and now runs one of the largest public bus networks in the state.
Its services currently cover all five IBILE divisions — Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe — while extending across 13 Local Government Areas, including Ibeju-Lekki, Ojo and Ikorodu.
The network now operates on 21 transport corridors and more than 40 routes statewide.
To support its operations, LBSL currently deploys a fleet of 300 buses, backed by six strategically located depots across Lagos.
Affordable mobility
Osiyemi said the achievements align with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly the administration’s commitment to building an integrated and efficient multi-modal transportation system.

He added that the state government remains focused on improving connectivity through road, rail and water transportation while ensuring that public transport remains safe, accessible and affordable for millions of Lagos residents.
According to him, the broader goal is to ease commuting challenges and support the vision of a more connected and efficient Greater Lagos.
