Leeds United have secured the signing of Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge from Remo Stars. The centre-back has signed a contract tying him to the club until the summer of 2027.

Ngenge will initially join the club’s academy setup. He arrives from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, where he made seven appearances this season. The teenager already possesses senior international experience, having earned two caps for Nigeria.

“I am excited. It is a big step for me,” Ngenge said in his first interview with the club. He described the move as the biggest step of his young career and a huge opportunity. The left-footed defender outlined his playing style, emphasising his tackling and desire to protect the goalkeeper.

His international debut came in a 1-0 defeat to Senegal last August. He later featured in a match against Sudan. Ngenge stated that those experiences were a great opportunity for development.

The transfer follows a pre-contract agreement reached before his 18th birthday. Leeds had scouted him in Nigeria and invited him for training visits earlier last year. He subsequently joined Remo Stars from IkoroduCity FC, who secured their maiden NPFL title in the 2024/25 season.

Leeds United continues to focus on identifying and investing in emerging young talent. The club views Ngenge as a player with strong potential for future first-team progression. He will now begin his development within the academy structure at Thorp Arch.

The signing represents a significant step in Ngenge’s career. It also shows the growing pathway for talented players from the Nigerian domestic league to European clubs.
