Defending champions Remo Stars have plunged into crisis with four consecutive defeats across all competitions. The Sky Blue Stars currently sit in the relegation zone after their latest 3-1 defeat to Kwara United.
Remo Stars crashed out of the CAF Champions League following a 7-1 aggregate defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. The Nigerian champions lost 5-1 at home before suffering a 2-0 defeat in Pretoria.
The Ikenne-based side has conceded 14 goals in six matches this NPFL season. After eight rounds, Remo Stars sit in 17th place with just ten points from three wins, one draw and four losses. They also have three games in hand.
Junior Aimufua scored twice as Kwara United secured a 3-1 victory on Saturday. Babatunde Bright added another goal while Malik Jabbar netted a late consolation for the visitors.
Remo Stars previously lost 3-1 to Katsina United in their October 12 fixture. They also suffered defeats against Plateau United and Abia Warriors in recent weeks.
Ogunmodede’s divided focus
Daniel Ogunmodede serves as both Remo Stars head coach and assistant manager for the Nigeria national team. The tactician missed Remo Stars’ 3-0 win over Nasarawa United while away on Super Eagles duty.
Ogunmodede returned from Tanzania after serving as assistant coach during the African Nations Championship. In his absence, the technical staff manages team affairs based on established patterns and philosophy.

Historical context
Last season, Remo Stars never lost consecutive matches throughout their title-winning campaign. They maintained top-three positioning for all 35 matchweeks during 2024-25.
The champions finished with 68 points from 21 wins, five draws, and nine losses. Their 19 clean sheets proved decisive in winning the championship.
Nasarawa United currently lead the NPFL with 19 points from nine matches. Warri Wolves occupy second place with 18 points from 11 games.
Remo Stars embark on a critical period. Their next fixtures determine whether this represents a temporary blip or existential crisis. The Sky Blue Stars must act decisively.
