Man United goalkeeper named PL Transfer of the Season after stunning debut

Senne Lammens Wins Premier League Signing of the Season Award

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been named the Premier League Signing of the Season for the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old Belgian beat a competitive eight-man shortlist featuring high-profile names across the division. The official award, decided by a public vote on the Premier League’s website, recognised Lammens as the most impactful arrival of the season.

He edged out Granit Xhaka, who inspired newly promoted Sunderland to European qualification, as well as Viktor Gyokeres, Joao Pedro, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Rayan Cherki, Adrien Truffert, and Antoine Semenyo.

Lammens arrived at Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp for just £18.1 million, a deal widely regarded as exceptional value. He missed the first six weeks of the season but made an immediate impact on his debut in matchweek seven against Sunderland, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory.

His standout moment included a spectacular acrobatic stop against Arsenal in January, which earned him a Save of the Month nomination.

More than just saves

Lammens brought more than shot-stopping to Michael Carrick’s side. He claimed 83 per cent of crosses, ranking him among the most dominant keepers in the division in the air.

His ability as a sweeper also contributed to United’s defensive solidity, with the team conceding just 39 goals in his 31 starts.

The Belgian’s distribution further improved United’s build-up play. His accurate long balls helped bypass opposition pressure, while his calmness on the ball allowed United to play out from the back even under intense pressing.

At just £18.1 million, he has already justified his transfer fee. United may have secured their goalkeeper for the next decade at a fraction of the cost of other elite shot-stoppers.
