Microsoft has introduced a new AI-powered “Write” feature in Notepad, enabling users to generate and refine text directly within the app.
This feature is currently available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels as part of a Windows 11 update.
Users can access the “Write” function via the Copilot menu, allowing them to input prompts and receive AI-generated text suggestions.
The AI can assist in drafting new content or enhancing existing text, offering options to keep, discard, or refine the output.

This development builds upon previous AI integrations in Notepad, such as the “Summarize” and “Rewrite” tools introduced in earlier updates.
The “Summarize” feature allows users to generate concise summaries of their documents, while “Rewrite” offers tone and length adjustments.
These enhancements aim to streamline the writing process, making Notepad a more versatile tool for content creation and editing.
To utilize these AI features, users must be signed into their Microsoft account, and usage may consume AI credits associated with subscriptions.
Microsoft has not yet disclosed pricing details for AI credits, but they are currently included with Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscriptions.
These updates reflect Microsoft’s commitment to integrating AI capabilities across its suite of applications, enhancing user productivity and experience.
