The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles. He becomes the 37th Head Coach of the men’s senior national football team.
The agreement with the experienced German tactician is a major step for the country’s football ambitions. Nigeria aims to elevate the Super Eagles to new heights on the international stage.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi confirmed the decision, stating, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect.”

Labbadia brings a wealth of experience to the Super Eagles. He has managed several top-tier clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga, including VfB Stuttgart, Hamburg SV, VfL Wolfsburg and Hertha BSC.
58-year-old Labbadia is renowned for his tactical expertise and his ability to nurture young talents. Nigerians will hope his arrival will inject fresh energy into the team’s strategy and performance.

Super Eagles to face Benin, Rwanda in upcoming games
Nigeria face Benin Republic – coached by former Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr – in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matchday 1 encounter on Saturday, 7 September.
Recall that the Super Eagles’ latest game was against Benin Republic in a World Cup qualifier encounter on 10 June. Benin defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the encounter. Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika scored Nigeria’s only goal in the match.
The three-time AFCON winners will then travel to take on Rwanda in another AFCON qualifying game three days later.
