Nigerian rapper Phenom has opened up on his long-running feud with fellow artiste Ycee, explaining that their disagreement started after he allowed Ycee’s girlfriend to stay at his home.
Phenom made this known during an interview with Yanga FM, where he gave his account of what led to the strained relationship between both artistes.
According to the rapper, Ycee’s girlfriend was stranded in Nigeria at the time and needed somewhere to stay. Phenom said he offered her accommodation at his house as a gesture of help.
He explained that the situation later became uncomfortable after Ycee was informed that his girlfriend was staying with him.
Phenom said he was with the woman when she was chatting with Ycee on her phone and she mentioned that he had provided her with a place to stay.
The rapper said Ycee’s response was to warn her to be careful, a comment Phenom found offensive because of their relationship and his understanding of the situation.

Phenom said he felt Ycee’s warning suggested that he could not be trusted, despite simply helping his colleague’s girlfriend when she needed accommodation.
He also disclosed that he had earlier asked the woman why she did not stay at Ycee’s residence. According to him, she explained that there were several other men around the place, making her uncomfortable.
Phenom added that he had no romantic intentions towards Ycee’s girlfriend and described himself as celibate while explaining his side of the incident.
He said: “There was one time, I think his girl was stranded in Nigeria, and she needed a place to stay.
“So I gave her a space in my house, and one time we were chilling, and she told him on the phone. She didn’t even know I wasn’t intentionally looking at her phone, but she was sitting beside me; I just saw that she was chatting with Ycee.
“She told him Phenom gave me a place to stay, and his (Ycee) is like, ‘Be careful.’ I found that very disrespectful. Like, you know me like that; what do you mean, be careful?
“The truth is that I asked her why she does not want to stay in his (Ycee’s) place, but she said there are a lot of guys there. I’m celibate oh.”

The rapper’s account provides a new explanation for the disagreement between him and Ycee, although it remains unclear whether the two artistes have discussed the matter privately or attempted to resolve their differences.
Ycee has yet to publicly respond to Phenom’s account as of the time of filing this report.

The development comes after Ycee recently spoke publicly about his personal struggles, including his experience with bipolar disorder.
The rapper disclosed that he was diagnosed with the condition in 2020 while he was in London during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ycee began his professional music career several years ago and gained attention in Nigeria with a number of successful releases.
He signed a record deal with Sony Music in October 2016 but ended his contract with the company in February 2018 after a difficult period with the label.
In January 2019, Ycee also left Tinny Entertainment, although the reason for his exit was not made public at the time.
