Politics: PDP demands answers over alleged land, cash gifts to INEC officials

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address allegations that some of its senior officials received land and cash gifts from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party described the claims as “deeply troubling” and warned that such developments risk undermining public confidence in the electoral body.

The issue gained momentum after media reports suggested that top INEC officials were among the beneficiaries of land allocations linked to the minister.

The PDP said its concerns intensified following reports that the Supervising National Commissioner for the FCT, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, acknowledged receiving a land allocation.

According to the party, the development raises serious questions about the neutrality of the Commission.

It warned that the situation could be perceived as an attempt to curry favour or exert influence over an institution central to Nigeria’s democratic process.

Business/Economy: Obi queries ₦3.3trn power debt approval, calls it ‘recycled announcements’

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has questioned the Federal Government’s latest approval of ₦3.3 trillion to clear debts in Nigeria’s power sector.

He described the move as part of a troubling pattern of repeated announcements with little visible impact.

In a statement posted on his X page, Obi urged Nigerians to reflect critically on the country’s energy policies, warning that successive financial interventions had yet to translate into a reliable electricity supply.

Obi drew attention to what he sees as a recurring trend of large-scale financial commitments to the power sector that have not delivered expected results.

The News Round The Clock (NRTC) reported that INEC removed the names of National Chairman David Mark, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, and other NWC members from its official website, where they had previously been listed as ADC leaders.

On Wednesday, a coalition of former political leaders, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Senate President David Mark, and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, led the “Save Nigeria Democracy” march.

The protest began at Maitama Roundabout and proceeded to the INEC headquarters, with demonstrators calling on the electoral body to remain impartial.

Sports: CAF president Patrice Motsepe rejects Senegal’s corruption claims after AFCON title

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has dismissed corruption allegations from Senegal after the body stripped the nation of its AFCON crown and awarded it to Morocco.

Motsepe, speaking at a press conference in Dakar on Thursday, said CAF has “nothing to hide” and welcomed scrutiny. “If anybody wants to initiate legal action alleging that there is corruption in CAF I don’t only welcome that, I encourage them,” he declared.

CAF overturned Senegal’s 1–0 win in the January 18 final, ruling that the team forfeited after walking off the pitch in protest of a stoppage‑time penalty. On March 17, Morocco were declared 3–0 winners.

Senegal’s Football Federation has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), while the government demanded an international investigation.

Entertainment: Cancer saga: Woman whose medical report Blessing CEO allegedly doctored breaks silence [VIDEO]

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that Mrs Deborah Mbara, the woman whose medical report was allegedly altered by controversial relationship expert Blessing CEO, has spoken out for the first time.

Her reaction comes shortly after the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) called for Blessing’s arrest over claims that she falsified a cancer patient’s medical record.

Recall that Blessing CEO had earlier shared a document online, claiming it confirmed she was battling stage 4 breast cancer, while also appealing to the public for financial assistance.

The report, said to have been issued by Xinus Medical Diagnostics and signed by Dr. O.A. Odigwe, a consultant pathologist, was later challenged by the medical facility. The laboratory stated that the document had been tampered with, clarifying that the original report belonged to Deborah Mbara and was issued in May 2025.
