Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has distanced himself from two widely circulated statements on social media that link him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The clarification came on Wednesday through a press statement issued by his media aide, Umar Ibrahim.
One of the statements falsely attributed to Obi claimed that he had denied returning to the PDP and reaffirmed loyalty to the ADC. The other alleged that he had been offered the position of National Organising Secretary in the ADC.

Ibrahim dismissed both claims, stressing that the former Anambra State governor did not issue the statements and that neither came from Obi’s media team.
“Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and didn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth,” Ibrahim said. “He has remained focused on his mission but would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their devious agenda.”
Amid growing political speculation surrounding his next move, Obi has continued to advocate for building what he describes as “a new Nigeria of our dreams.”
His media office urged the public to ignore any statements circulating online unless they originate from Obi’s official handle or authorized channels.
