Politicians from various parties condemned the violence, urging security forces to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for the victims.

President Bola Tinubu issued a strong statement, ordering immediate investigations and pledging support for affected communities.

Politics: Ondo gets new deputy

On January 25th, 2024, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State appointed Dr. Olayide Adelami as Deputy Governor. NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Adelami’s appointment filled the vacancy left when Governor Aiyedatiwa assumed office following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023.

Previously serving as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Adelami is from Owo, the late Governor Akeredolu’s hometown. His nomination aimed to maintain political equilibrium within the state.

Adelami’s appointment received mixed reactions. While some Ondo residents were optimistic, anticipating that his experience and qualifications would benefit the state, others raised concerns about potential political influence or nepotism.

Despite the varied responses, Adelami wasted no time in assuming his new responsibilities. He promptly initiated meetings with key stakeholders and officials to acquaint himself with the state’s priorities and challenges. Furthermore, he pledged to collaborate closely with Governor Aiyedatiwa to address the needs of Ondo State’s populace.
