NSCDC commends EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been lauded by the Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ayinla Akintayo, for its robust efforts in the fight against corruption, noting that the agency’s performance provides “renewed hope to Nigeria.”

The commendation was made on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the newly-posted NSCDC Commandant and his team to the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate.

Speaking after being received by the Benin Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE) Sa’ad Sa’ad, Commandant Akintayo praised the EFCC’s successful conviction and asset recovery figures.

He described the Commission as a “central pillar” in Nigeria’s pursuit of economic growth and development.

“Your Commission has consistently demonstrated an uncommon commitment to curbing financial crimes, money laundering and the menace of corruption in our society. Indeed, the EFCC has given renewed hope to Nigeria that accountability, transparency and justice are achievable values in our democracy,” Akintayo stated.

The visit was intended for the new NSCDC leadership to familiarise themselves with the EFCC and to explore avenues for strengthening the existing inter-agency collaboration in combating economic and other criminal activities within the state.

Akintayo emphasised the need for a sustained and deeper partnership between the two security bodies.

“It is our hope that through sustained partnership, intelligence sharing and mutual support, we can collectively strengthen the fight against corruption and other economic crimes that undermine national growth and stability,” he added.

In his response, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad expressed gratitude for the visit and underscored the essential role of partnership in the EFCC’s success.

He affirmed the Commission’s “robust relationship” with the NSCDC, stressing that no single organisation possesses the capacity to tackle the widespread issues of fraud and criminality alone.

“The EFCC cannot do it alone. We believe in collaboration, and through effective collaboration, we can block the loopholes and gaps which criminals explore, and build a better nation which we can all be proud of,” Sa’ad promised, affirming the commitment to sustaining the strategic partnership.
