NYSC explains delay in issuing certificate to corps member Raye popular for criticising Tinubu

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed social media claims that it withheld the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye popularly known as Raye, because she criticised the government.

In a statement on Sunday, the NYSC described the allegation as “entirely unfounded” and said Rita’s situation was not politically motivated.

According to the management, Rita, who served under state code number LA/24B/8325, is one of 131 corps members whose service years were extended for disciplinary reasons.

The agency explained that she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance and, as a result, her service was extended by two months in line with the NYSC Bye-Laws.

“This extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case. The principle of equal treatment was applied,” the statement read.

The NYSC urged the public not to politicise the matter, stressing that extensions for non-compliance are a longstanding tradition within the scheme.

It reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its constitutional mandate without fear or favour.

“Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the statement concluded.
