The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi has urged African youths to remain committed to shaping a better future for the continent by dismantling corruption and embracing purposeful leadership.

The former Anambra State Governor said this while addressing the youth at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom during the African Together Conference themed “The Making of Africa’s Future Presidents.”

Obi, who was invited to speak at the prestigious event, said he was inspired by the passion and determination of the young African leaders in attendance.

“Our discussion centred on how to build a better Africa by confronting corruption and investing in human and national development,” Obi said.

He emphasised that investing in education, healthcare, and poverty reduction remains key to unlocking Africa’s full potential.

Drawing parallels with countries such as China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam, Obi highlighted how visionary leadership and strategic investments have transformed their societies.

Obi also shared personal insights from his political journey, stressing that service to the people must be anchored on integrity and competence.

He maintained that Nigeria and the African continent at large can achieve inclusive growth if leadership is placed in the hands of capable, compassionate individuals who prioritise development over personal gain.

“With competent, committed and compassionate leadership, Nigeria can become a beacon of hope, and Africa will rise to become a global economic powerhouse,” Obi noted.

He expressed gratitude to the African Society at Cambridge for hosting the event and lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and engagement.

He called on all citizens to play an active role in nation-building by electing leaders with proven integrity and capability.
