Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has died at the age of 90.
He passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025 just two days after marking his birthday.
The monarch took his last breath exactly one year after he was crowned as the Olubadan, the traditional ruler of the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State.
His death comes amid ongoing traditional and political conversations surrounding the Ibadan royal institution.
Oba Olakulehin’s one-year reign followed the customs of the Olubadan succession system, which is known for its unique structure among Yoruba monarchies.
More details are expected to be shared soon as the city begins to mourn the traditional ruler who spent decades in the line of succession before becoming Olubadan.
