Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has agreed to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan, with the announcement expected after his international duty with Cameroon.
The agreement includes full wage coverage by the Turkish club, alongside bonuses and a signing fee. These terms ensured that Onana’s take-home salary would almost double under Turkey’s 20% flat tax regime.
United sanctioned the deal following the arrival of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The deadline-day signing created a surplus in the squad, limiting Onana’s opportunities to play.
Since joining United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for £47.2 million, Onana endured inconsistent form. He has been replaced by Altay Bayindir in the Premier League, with only a Carabao Cup outing against Grimsby Town this season.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper, who is under contract at Old Trafford until 2027, earns around £100,000 a week. However, he had lost a 25% uplift clause when the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Trabzonspor identified Onana as a replacement after selling Ugurcan Cakir to Galatasaray for up to €36 million.
The deal is a simple loan, with no fee paid to United and no option to buy. Onana is expected to return to Manchester in June 2026 unless terms are revised.
Onana will travel to Turkey after Cameroon’s World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde on 9 September. If cleared, he could debut against Fenerbahce on 14 September.
